Kindergarten Weaving Spring 2023

A wonderful blessing happened this year and I took a chance on weaving with yarn with Kindergarten kiddos. Like any of my other classes mistakes were fixed and I stopped fixing minor mistakes unless the student noticed. I was quite impressed with the results of these little kiddos trying and succeeding. My gauge on testing out my lessons is if more than ¾ of the kiddos get it – I’m on track.

Okay, couple of things, the weaving’s stayed on the cardboard looms. Not enough time to teach tying knots. Velcro shoes have has slowed the dexterity of that skill. They did wind the warp on the cardboard (I adjusted when needed). Popsicle stick needles are great for the weft, a nice visual of over and under the warps.

I’m looking forward to spring weaving with these kiddos in first grade.
